IBS can be an embarrassing problem and one that generally falls under the heading of “too much information”. Often, you hope it will just go away without treatment, and sometimes you’re in denial and decide that it’s just a bug, or maybe something you ate.
IBS is a nasty condition that can leave you reluctant to venture outside your front door and cause anxiety, stress and even panic attacks when you do. If this sounds like you, you aren’t alone. IBS is a very common gastrointestinal disorder with 15 to 25% of the population suffering mild to severe symptoms. Some people have symptoms mild enough that they don’t recognize it as IBS, but many people deal with symptoms that range from diarrhea or constipation to abdominal pain, bloating, cramps and excess gas.
Treating IBS – the cause, not just the symptoms – involves reducing carbohydrates in the diet, taking healthy bacteria and yeast in the form of probiotics, and using herbal antibacterial and anti-yeast products as well as L glutamine and Aloe Vera to reduce bowel inflammation. Natural treatments are safe, effective and can greatly improve quality of life for people living with IBS.
The following protocol is a one month, higher potency treatment. Once you have completed this protocol for the first month, follow the maintenance protocol for sustained health.
- Multigenics – 3 tablets daily
- Ultra Flora Balance – 2 capsules once daily
- Spectrazyme – 1 tablet with each meal, 3 times/day (caution for people with stomach ulcers).
- Glutagenics powder – 1 teaspoonful twice a day
- Silymarin 80 – 1 capsule twice a day
Maintenance: Reduce Ultra Flora Immune Health to 1 daily and continue the other supplements at the original dosages.
Description of the above supplements
Multigenics – provides a therapeutic level of broad-spectrum micronutrients, forming a good foundation in the treatment of many complex health problems.
Ultra Flora Immune Health – a probiotic and a key part of the immune system. A secretory IgA (sIgA) antibody that lines the gut, it is often deficient in chronic illnesses, especially allergic disorders. Probiotics stimulate the production of sIgA by balancing the normal gut flora.
Spectrazyme – provides a range of enzymes that aid digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Poor digestion is often a feature of IBS and has been linked to the development of food allergies.
Glutagenics Powder – contains glutamine, licorice and aloe vera which are known to support the health of cells lining the gut.
Silymarin – this is the key ingredient of milk thistle. IBS and food allergies are associated with the leaky gut syndrome which allows increased levels of gut toxins to reach the bloodstream, thereby increasing the demand on liver detoxification systems. Milk Thistle has been clinically proven to support detoxification processes.
